3-D
Stereo
Anaglyphs

These are curious tricks of human vision. There are several web sites that explain how to do this. Here are a few of my experiments with this trick of photography and graphics. You need 3-D glasses with red and cyan lenses to see the effects.

Sci-Fi Books

A pile of sci-fi books makes an suitable still life. (Enlarge.)

Digital camera and Photoshop.

Same as above, but in color.

These are the same photos as above, except the color information was preserved. However, note that strong colors in the image can interfere with the 3-D effect. (Enlarge.)

Heels and Lingerie

Another stereo anaglyph with different subject matter. Textured items work quite well. However, the shoes were a rather dominant red and the color version of this fails. (Enlarge.)

Digital camera and Photoshop.

Line Art Example

This simple line art example show how the red anb cyan images are offset to give the 3-D effect when viewed through glasses. Notice how the "zero depth" oval, where the red and cyan image line up exactly, looks like it is at the same distance as the screen. (Enlarge.)

Photoshop.

Handout

This is a 2 page handout (in PDF format) with a little bit of information about 3-D Stereo Anaglyphs that I put together for an art show. (Download.)
