When I started teaching myself art back around 1989 I was frustrated at the lack of instructional material available for demonstrating the rendering of astronomical objects. A good friend of mine, who also dabbles in space art, has encouraged me to experiment and collect notes to share between each other. As the project evolved we toyed with the idea of co-authoring a manuscript for possible publication to other space fan artists like ourselves.

This document is my contribution to this endeavor. It is a very basic manuscript mostly organized from scattered notes. I hope it will encourage others to gather a few basic art materials and take interest the universe all around us.
